Other: day/eve

Entelia (50 Whiteladies Rd, near Clifton Down)
This place has a couple of good vegan options - their briam (baked vegetables) is delicious. They also do hummus, dolmades (vine leaves filled with rice and olive oil) and gigantes (butterbeans baked in tomato sauce).

Goldbrick House (Park Street, on the left going up, about 2/3 of the way up)
Quite pricey, but they make an incredible vegan breakfast! Some of their lunch/dinner cafe menu looks vegan, too (they have hummus and an aubergine salad).

I recently went to the restaurant for a birthday and, as someone called in advance, they made a special vegan menu, which was nice. But I must say that the menu could have been more creative: being vegan, I am offered salad all the time (why do people think that's all I want to eat?). The two starters were salads, and one of the two mains was also a salad. The desert (which I didn't have) was chocolate cake with plum sorbet and sounded delicious. By the time I got there I was incredibly hungry, so salad was probably not going to cut it - to their credit, they found me some bread and olives. The stirfry was nice (peppers, cashews), but wasn't cooked in any sauce, which was a bit odd.

They also do fabulous cocktails, although last time I went there for a friend's birthday they were quite insistent that we pay half way through, which was weird and actually quite a pain. It's never happened before, and hopefully won't again!
Highly recommended breakfast

Grounded (66-68 Bedminster Parade BS3 4HL; 53-55 Sandy Park Road BS4 3PH; 747-749 Fishponds Road BS16 3UP; 421-425 Gloucester Road BS7 8TZ; 287 Church Road BS5 9HT)
The menu here is great, with lots of vegan options: olives, ciabatta with hummus/balsamic, falafel, bruschetta, a veggie platter (minus arancini), roasted mediterranean veg salad (mixed leaves, parsnip crisps, balsamic reduction, toasted pine nuts) and vegan cheese available for their tasty looking pizzas. Between 5-10pm they will do pizza for collection or delivery!

Hunkimori (pop-up restaurant - currently searching for permanent premises)
The food on their website looks absolutely incredible, but sadly this is just a pop-up restaurant at the moment, but they are currently looking for permanent premises. For now, keep an eye on their events page to see where they will be next - they also offer catering services. Awarded 4 stars by Time Out Magazine.

King William Ale House (21 King St, BS1 2EF - near Old Vic theatre)
Apparently almost all the ale at this place (run by Sam Smiths Brewery which only sells own-brand stuff) is completely vegan. Have a look at their website on the vegan search. No idea what their food is like though...

The Lansdown (8 Clifton Road, BS8 1AF)
When I was trying to book a last-minute family Christmas meal, the owners of this place were incredibly helpful, and really friendly. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the meal due to illness, but I have already decided that I will go here for Sunday lunch the next time I am free because it sounds excellent: Cashew and Walnut roast, served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, oven roasted carrots, Savoy cabbage, mashed swede and braised red cabbage. They have a  vegan pudding option, and can do gluten-free gravy, too. I had a lovely chat with one of the owners, and I think he said that they do vegan burgers too, and they definitely do vegan sausages and mash. I can't wait!

Magic Roll
It appears that this place has re-opened, but properly this time (see this blog post about the saga of Magic Roll). It has been incorporated into the same building as Taka Taka Pita, which is rather odd. It seems that Magic Roll is being run exactly the same way as before, however, and the food is still fresh and delicious. The Pita house attached to Magic Roll actually looks pretty nice - it has its own deli, which I had a poke around when I went to get a wrap yesterday after a film. They sell all sorts of lovely olives and stuff. In short, this place is still well worth a visit, not least because they are often open late. Tip: don't order the hot sauce.

Update October 2nd 2013
The last time I went here was just before my holiday two months ago, and I now have very mixed feelings about this place. When you're the only customer, the service is good and food excellent, but as soon as there is more than one person in there they just can't handle it. There were two staff members making orders for about four or five people and they were in such a rush that they labelled our order the wrong way round (my boyfriend's contained meat!), put cheese in mine even when I asked them not to and gave my boyfriend cabbage, which is pretty much the only thing he really hates eating. You just need to calm down and do one thing at a time, guys. It was pretty much the least efficient way imaginable to make these wraps and I was tired just watching them flap about.

The other thing I am slightly concerned about now is the fact that they make their wraps so close to all the ingredients. I'm also pretty sure I saw some chicken fall off a wrap and into the hummus, which is bad bad bad. Overall, I'm not really sure what to advise on this one as the food can be excellent here. If it's quiet, maybe go for it, but that still doesn't solve the cross-contamination issue. Your call.
