Tapas & Latin American

Bravas (Cotham Hill)
There are high expectations for this new tapas restaurant, run by Kieran and Imogen White, who ran (past tense?) the Bravas Supper Club. I haven't been here yet, but in anticipation of a trip, I sent them an email asking whether they did vegan food. I received a prompt reply from Imogen informing me that they did some vegan food, but that it would be best if you contact them in advance to let them know, so that they can better arrange it.

Update
I ate here for my birthday yesterday and it was amazing! I booked a week in advance because I knew it would be rammed, and it was. We arrived at our table to find a specially edited menu letting me know what was vegan (with most dishes changed just for me). I had a lentil & walnut salad (lovely contrasting textures); lemon chargrilled courgette (it isn't normally my favourite veggie but this was beautiful); baby gem, fennel & radish salad; roasted peppers & red onion, and patatas bravas. For me the patatas were the highlight of the meal. The potatoes were served in big slices with an utterly delicious sauce. Really, the food was so beautifully presented. We had originally ordered only a few dishes, but the food was so good that we ordered seconds. My boyfriend ordered a lamb chop which the chef (who I think might have been the owner) forgot to put on. When it was remembered, the waitress came to tell us that as it was late, they had taken it off the bill (excellent service, but we left cash for it anyway). Overall: infeasibly cheap for the quality of the food served.
Booking highly recommended - you might not get a table otherwise.
Highly recommended

El Puerto (57 Prince St)
Nice, reasonably price tapas place in the centre of town. My boyfriend and I always come here for dinner before gigs at Thekla - the staff are nice, too!

Il Bàcaro (3 Welshback)
Apparently this tapas cafe/restaurant does vegan food! Click here to download their menu  which, satisfyingly, has everything labelled! They do vegan salad, cassoulet, fried mushrooms and a vegan platter. Can't believe I've only just discovered this place but will add it to must list!

Updated 21/6/15
I went here yesterday and the food was fantastic; I had a butterbean cassoulet, falafels, and asparagus/purple sprouting broccoli with toasted nuts. All of it was outstanding. Not only was the food fantastic, but the staff were really friendly and passionate about vegan food! Yay! This place takes vegan food seriously, and doesn't just want to make vegetarian food with all the 'minus' options (usually 'omit cheese') - just good, honest vegan food. Meat does make up the majority of the menu, though, but hopefully they will be tempted by the vegan offerings instead!

Las Iguanas (113 Whiteladies Road, near Clifton Down shopping centre; Harbourside, Anchor Square, near Millennium Square and @Bristol)
Just tell them that you don't eat egg/dairy and they're more than happy to find out what's suitable. You'll want to check, but I think the spinich, chickpea and squash enchilada, and sweet potato and chickpea chili (without sour cream or cheese) are always vegan - and super tasty! If you sign up to their mailing list, they will give you £5 off your next meal, with the promise of keeping you updated on all their latest promotions. Register just before you're planning to go, though, as your voucher must be used within three weeks.

Update (May 2013)
I am very disappointed to report that Las Iguanas changed their menu a couple of months ago, which limits the choice for vegetarians, but is really bad for vegans as there are now only two options (the moqueca, a nice, spicy Brazillian curry made with coconut milk) and the mushroom fajitas (these are nice, but costing about £10, these are over-priced). The good news is that these two dishes are always vegan, and they now give you some complimentary tortilla chips and salsa on arrival.

I'm still pretty annoyed that they got rid of their lovely enchiladas, but losing the vegan chili means that I am less likely to encourage my boyfriend to go there, so they now get less of my money. That being said, the staff here are still lovely, and they always make lots of effort with the customers, which is one of the reasons I do go back.

Mission Burrito (Park St, about 2/3 of the way up)
The menu is nice and simple: step 1, choose your dish (burrito, fajita burrito, tacos, salad box or rice box), step 2, choose your filling (vegetarian, obviously!), step 3, choose extras (lettuce is free but guacamole is 70p), step 4, choose your salsa. The food here is pretty tasty and the portion sizes are good.
