East Asian

Cathay Rendezvous (Avon St, near Old Vic)
The Chinese food here was pretty good, although I was slightly put out when I asked for the bill to pay, and it was promptly presented to my boyfriend.

Hong Kong Diner (Park Street, on the right going up, about half way up)
Friendly staff, huge portions, inexpensive, delicious Chinese food. The set lunch menu is amazing value (£7.80 for three courses) and I eat here quite often, which may explain why, last time, one of the staff gave me loads of vouchers! It also has really late opening hours, particularly at the weekend (perhaps 2am? I'll check) so is great if you've just caught a late film at the Watershed. A bit of a warning, though, they do have some pictures of meat on the walls, so try not to look at those!
Try the tofu and mixed veg
Highly recommended

Mayflower (3a-5 Haymarket Walk, The Haymarket, BS1 3LN - near the bus station in town)
A friend recommended this Chinese restaurant and it was really nice. I checked and the vegetable soup and stirfried vegetables & mushrooms with tofu has no meat, egg or fish in it. The reataurant was perhaps a little too brightly lit, and the meals were a few pounds more expensive than HK Diner, my favourite Chinese restaurant, but the staff were friendly and helpful so I'd definitely go back.

Nomu (81 Whiteladies Rd)
Although their menu isn't labelled, Nomu will make vegan Japanese food for you. In a reply to my email enquiry, Ken said 'As everything is prepared fresh, we can alter most dishes to suit ones needs' - apparently one of their staff is vegan too (thanks for the prompt reply Ken!). Their menu does indeed look very vegan adaptable. I'm so glad to have fresh sushi on this list because vegans often get left out!

Teohs (28 Lower Ashley Road; the one that used to be next to the Tobacco Factory has now changed into a Thali Cafe)
Lots of different kinds of food available: Thai, Japanese, Malaysian, Chinese. The vegan options are listed on the menu, although it's not immediately obvious (look for the the grey 'V's). In terms of service, the layout of the Ashley Road restaurant can make it a bit hard for the staff to see you, so don't be afraid to be assertive!

Toro Noodle Bar (72 Park St)
I asked the nice people at Toro via Twitter if they did vegan food, and they replied really quickly: 'Hi there! Yes, the old menu will be replaced this Monday. We have a selection of vegetarian dishes that can be made vegan.' Hopefully the new menu will be online soon, but I would feel confident going here for vegan food.

Wagamama (Clifton Triangle)
So Wagamama's food isn't really my thing, but loads of my friends love this place. They also take labelling seriously, so kudos to them for that. If you go on their website and click 'dietary menu filter' you can select vegan (check the 'all' box, otherwise you have to scroll through every type of food which is really annoying, not least because many types don't have any vegan options). They have lots of vegan sushi and a noodle dish. They also do takeaway.

Wok to Walk (39 Park St - going up the hill, it's about half way up on the left) - added 18/10/15
A build-your own Asian takeaway, have a look at their nutrition calculator to see what the vegan options are. Choose your base (noodles, rice or veggies), topping (tofu, pak choi, mushrooms) and sauce (soy, hot & sour, peanut) - simple! I love that Wok to Walk seem to take their labelling seriously, it really shouldn't be so hard, but many places don't seem to bother with this. There is also a note on there to tell the cashier you want your dish without egg, so don't forget!

Yo Sushi (Cabot Circus, Cribbs Causeway)
As of 18 June 2015 (when I emailed to ask - thanks Katerina!), Yo Sushi's menu is 20% vegan, which is wonderful. The list of vegan food can be found on this page (page updated since I emailed!). With miso soup, gyoza and maki, edamame and salad, you won't go hungry - just make sure you skip the mayo, and don't over-order as it can get expensive.

Yume Kitchen (bottom of Cotham Hill)
This place will do you vegan Japanese food - apparently they even have a separate vegan/veggie menu!. When I walked past in October 2013, not only was everything vegetarian labelled with a V, anything with egg was labelled too. They had tofu katsu curry, endamame and tempura. I must say, I really appreciate clear labelling; it makes food so much less hassle-y. I've had a sushi craving lately. Since then, I've tried their delivery food and it was pretty good. Their website has been updated (as of 18/10/25) and lists their vegan options, and you can follow them on twitter, too.
