Curry

Ganesha (Bedminster Parade)
I went here last night for a friend's birthday meal and it was lovely, without being too expensive. The waiter knew all about the food and they really pride themselves on being different from other curry houses, offering cuisine from a different part of the region. The waiter was really accomodating when I asked for dishes without egg or dairy, and all dishes in this restaurant are cooked in oil, rather than gee. They rate all their curries for spiciness, which is helpful - I found 'medium' to be rather hot in some dishes though!

Garam Massala (Cotham Hill)
This place opened in April, and is quite nice to look at. Have only been here once (I will return for the sake of vegans everywhere - it's a hard life), but the staff were helpful, and quick to check ingredients with the kitchen. I had the vegetable rhogan which was alright.

Indian Ocean (Cotham Hill)
The food here is tasty, and the staff were chatty, despite the fact that we arrived shortly before closing time. Many of their dish styles can be made with vegetables - find some you like the look of, and they'll tell you what can be made vegan. One of the waiters knows exactly what is in every dish, so someone will probably grab him!
Best onion bhajis in Bristol!

Jubo Raj (Cotham Hill)
Have been here a few times now and the food is always tasty and the staff are always friendly. They always try their hardest to squeeze you in!

Kathmandu (Colston Street, behind Colston Tower)
Slightly pricey, but worth every penny as the food is just incredible. Tell the staff that you're vegan and they'll help you find something to eat, even if it means altering one of their non-vegan dishes (it's surprising how many places get stuffy about this - perhaps their chefs aren't creative enough?). One of my particular favourites is a lovely coconut-based dish. As if that wasn't reason enough to go here, the restaurant itself is rather nice to look at, and the staff are wonderful.
Highly recommended

Kohi Noor (221 - top of - Whiteladies Road)
Just tell the staff that you don't eat dairy/egg and they'll tell you what is vegan, although there is available than many Indian restaurants. Just a warning, though: let them know how spicy you like it. Last time I ate there, it was quite hot, and I have a fair tolerance. Any of the side-dishes can be made into a main, and they have a 15% discount on takeaways.

Krishna's Inn (Clifton Triangle)
Ate here for my boyfriend's birthday, and it was very nice. They serve south Indian food, which is wonderfully different from most Indian food I've tried. For the non-vegans in your party, apparently the pancake dishes are lovely. Just make clear that you don't eat dairy, meat or egg yourself. I love the fact that some of the dishes come in relatively small portions so that you can try more of them. My favourite dish here is called erussery and it is made of pumpkin (yummmm!) and the banana curry is totally delicious.

Redland Curry (online only)
An absolute vegan dream, this place will deliver vegan curry to you every Friday and Saturday evening (menu here - all labelled). It's a wonderful opportunity to try all of those curry dishes you thought weren't available to you as a vegan (or even vegetarian) such as korma made with coconut milk. Sheesh Mahal (13 Gloucester Road, near The Arches)
The staff here are possibly the friendliest of any place I've ever eaten, and they now know my order; just ask for a dairy/egg free dish and the result won't disappoint! I also love the decor in this restaurant, you can tell that they've put a lot of effort in to making it look nice, and the same extends to their food.

Spice Up Your Life (St Nick's Market)
I've been going to St Nick's for many years but I've never eaten here. A tip from a commenter, Beverly, led me to put this listing up. She said "Spice up your life do a great vegan curry. Highly recommend :)" One of the reviews on this page also states that they do vegan curry. I do love a good curry!

Thali Cafe (Clifton; Easton; Totterdown; Montpelier; Southville next to Tobacco Factory - see website below)
Without a doubt, one of the best places to eat in Bristol; indeed, I chose to eat here for my birthday last year! Completely vegan friendly (even ice cream!), incredibly cheap and service always comes with a smile. Winner of best takeaway 2009; little wonder when you can get a massive tiffin for £7, which is enough for 2 people. The only thing is that vegans get no choice as there is only a 'dairy free thali', but this is a minor complaint when the food is so good.

Update (May 2013)
I went back again yesterday (May 2013) and the food is still amazing! My friends were also really impressed by it, and they liked the decor too.

Update (December 2013)
I returned recently to discover that they have a whole load of small dishes and starters. They were all labelled, and were absolutely delicious; I would expect nothing less from this wonderful restaurant family!

Cheap

Tiffins (Kingsdown Parade)
Gujarati food - lots of yummy sounding curries. Their website specifically says that they have vegan food available, and they do catering, too. It's always busy when I go past, so I'll have to pop in myself at some point!
